About the Project



Two Products, No Connection

There are many products within the Education product suite and outlying umbrella. Some of those products connect and send appropriate data easily, while some have no connection at all. Two products that could be connected but are not, are the Financial Aid Management product (FA) and the Education Enrollment Management product (EMS). For over a year, Education teams have worked together to connect the products to communicate with one another while easily, and confidently sending financial aid awards from one product to another.

Opportunity

There are students with financial aid awards in both products that are related but not connected in the Education ecosystem. Today, users must manually input awards to the associated awardee in one (EMS) or both products in order for the awards to show on enrollment contracts and candidates' record. This creates redundant work for our users by making them input the same award in both products that have separate logins and experiences. This process of manually entering awards can also introduce errors such as duplicates or incorrect award amounts.

The sending of awards from one product to the other will simplify the awarding process which will increase efficiency and customer satisfaction as well as strengthen the Education ecosystem.

That is what this project will solve by connecting the two products and strengthening the Total School story of the Blackbaud Education Mnaagement (BEM) product suite.

Research Process


Client calls to understand

    Workflows for awarding aid to current families in FA.
    Workflows for communicating aid awards from the aid office to the enrollment office.
    Overall feelings toward the lack of connection between FA and EMS and what they would expect from an integration between the two products.

Survey to measure the early adopter perception of the integration by measuring ease of use and satisfaction in the tasks.
